A New Operational Hub
MRMS has had a transformative year, marked by operational expansion, strategic investment, technological innovation and outstanding contributions from our team. In November, we opened a new base of operations in Gloucester, strengthening our UK footprint. The facility is shared with sister company Maius, a multi-disciplinary civil engineering contractor, enabling close collaboration on regional infrastructure programmes while both businesses continue to operate independently. The shared Gloucester base establishes a South West hub, with MRMS providing drainage, sewer maintenance, inspection and surveying, either in support of Maius’s civil engineering and structural works or as a standalone service for its own regional projects.
Managing Director Tom Persson recently commented, “The Gloucester site enhances our ability to deploy teams quickly across the South West, Thames and Severn Trent regions, allowing us to deliver the complete service package our customers expect.”
Investing In People
Our growth is driven by a people-first approach. We expanded our team with experienced professionals who combine technical expertise with proven field capability. This allows us to remain agile, responsive and closely aligned with client needs.
“We have focused on recruiting people who understand the sector,” Tom explained, “because high-quality work starts with high-quality capability. Our size lets us make decisions quickly and react rapidly to client needs.”
Alongside team growth, we upgraded our fleet with KAISER and Cappaletto Recycling units, new CCTV vans and high-performance pumps, boosting our speed, coverage and accuracy in drainage inspections and asset mapping.
Driving Innovation
This year saw the rollout of Operis, our new job management system designed for dynamic resource planning in the utilities sector. It improves reporting, provides real-time intelligence and streamlines coordination between office and field teams.
“Operis has made a big difference to how we run things day to day,” Operations Manager Ben Harness explained, “Planning used to involve a load of back-and-forth and checking different places for information, but now it takes minutes. If something changes on site, we can move jobs and resources around straight away without everything grinding to a halt.
“The knock-on effect for the client is huge,” he continued, “The information coming back from sites is clearer, updates are quicker, and the whole process just runs a lot smoother. Overall, we’re able to give a better service all round, and that’s exactly what we’re aiming for.”
Heroes In High-Vis
We are very proud of the team we have built, but some have gone above and beyond the call of duty. In July, field operative Ben Kirby (pictured right) came across a terrifying vehicle fire on the motorway. Without hesitation, Ben pulled over to assist and stayed with the driver, Nafsia Shafiq, to ensure her safety and well-being until the emergency services arrived. Nafisa later emailed our office, saying: “Ben Kirby’s calmness, kindness and willingness to step in during a dangerous situation meant more than I can put into words.”
In October, jetting operative Steve Brown (pictured left) also came across a bad situation when he stepped in to give vital first aid, reassurance and support to an elderly gentleman involved in a car crash. Steve then waited with the man until emergency services arrived.
Their actions exemplify the professionalism and community commitment MRMS strives to uphold.
Supporting Our Community Teams
This year, we are very happy to be supporting local teams. We have partnered with Bradford Bulls for a range of sponsorship opportunities, and sponsored playing kits for Cleckheaton RUFC and Cowling FC, a club that holds a special connection for Tom.
“We are really happy to sponsor Cowling FC for the next 2 years,” he explained. “Cowling is where my childhood memories were formed, and it’s great to support them with the 2-year sponsorship.”
The Year Ahead
With the Gloucester hub operational, an expanded fleet on the way and new in-house software platforms in development, MRMS is set for another strong year. We are also enhancing our sustainable operations, including introducing new Recycler units to support rapid response during pollution events.
Tom summarised the direction: “Clean and efficient working practices benefit clients, communities and the wider environment. Reducing water use, improving waste handling and responding quickly to pollution incidents strengthen infrastructure resilience.”
Our continued investment and experienced workforce position MRMS to deliver reliable, compliant and data-driven drainage and utility services in 2026 and beyond.
