Introduction

MRMS have been managing a detention tank project for one of our clients in Bradford. A detention tank is an artificial flow-control structure that is used to contain stormwater and wastewater for a limited period of a time. The detention tank can be incorporated into the sewer network system at the wastewater treatment plant or at factories.

The Scope

Our work entailed a programme and associated target cost build up, production of method statements and risk assessments, management of site operations and weekly commercial updates to all associated parties.

Our Approach

The operational work involved the cleaning of a 26m deep detention tank, with a 15m diameter. The work involved removing a vast amount of sludge and disposing at the licensed tip. Silt and effluent removal ensured that the tanks utility complies with its environmental obligations. This large operation involved cranage, large capacity tankers, submersible pumps, and remote-controlled excavators. Further complications arose as a consequence of the site being located near a railway. Subsequently, the safety of members of public and the rail network was of top priority.

The Outcome

This is the second detention tank clean MRMS have managed, where the project was a large success. One factor of this success was the competent and diligent teams employed across this project, encompassing a high standard of work.
