Introduction
MRMS played a leading role in a detention tank clean in Sheffield for one of our major clients. A detention tank is an artificial flow-control structure that is used to contain stormwater and wastewater for a limited period of time. The detention tank was part of the sewer network system.
The Scope
The detention tank required a full clean to mitigate any potential pollution events. The work involved reducing effluent levels in the 20-metre diameter by 15-meter deep tank and cleaning and removing the solids and sludge. A variety of tankers and suction vehicles including disabs, 4000-gallon tankers and recycling units were used to draw the effluent and sludge from the tank. Waste arisings was then passed through a mobile treatment plant (screen) to separate the rags and solids from the liquid. The solids were then disposed of at a local licensed tip.
Our Approach
MRMS provided various services leading up to and during the detention tank clean. These services included programme management i.e. planning and designing the programme and proactively monitoring the progress, method statements, risk assessments, commercial reporting and general administration of site operations. It was important that we maintained an efficient and safe working site throughout the project. Raising Heras fencing around the perimeter of the site and ensuring there was 24-hour security were some of the parameters we implemented.
The Outcome
The project was a success and delivered within the time constraints set by the client. One factor of this success was the competent and diligent teams employed across this project.
